Free Things to Do with Kids in Auckland

A working farm with free access. Kids can see sheep, pigs, chickens, and goats up close. The Manukau Harbour views are beautiful. Walking tracks through paddocks. Toilets onsite.

Many short tracks in the Waitākere Ranges are free and beginner-friendly. The Fairy Falls walk (2.5 km return) is manageable for ages 5+ and ends at a picturesque waterfall.

Calm harbour beaches with flat grassy reserves behind them. Safe for paddling. Ice cream shops and cafés line the waterfront. Easy to combine with a walk along the promenade.

📍 Tamaki Drive, Eastern Bays

A stunning black sand beach on the West Coast — dramatic but respect the surf (swim between the flags). Spectacular scenery even for a coastal walk. Surf lifesaving patrols in summer.
